Lantern Square is an exciting and comfortable, rustic bed and breakfast with self catering options. Centrally situated in the quiet part of the main street (Nojoli Street), within a short walking distance of all the amenities and places of interest in the quaint and historic town of Somerset East, Eastern Cape.
It is a historic old home, built in the typical Karoo-style, facing the beautiful Boschberg mountain, with a courtyard in the middle and a “Cave” for dinners.
There are 3 different types of accommodation which differ from the ordinary Family units and a double room in the Mountain Rooms to the romantic Garden Rooms (converted old stables) and the “Cave” room of Kepe for the adventurous, in Kepe’s Quarters. Kepe was a notorious thief who escaped police custody for 12 years. We present dinners with exciting menu’s at Kepe’s Quarters to groups of 15 – 30 people, dramatising his story.
We play with lots of atmosphere, which includes pictures and stories of the 1940 and 50’s, images of the mountain where Kepe stayed, water and the history of the town.
All the rooms have their own private entrance and en-suite bathrooms. We offer secured parking on the premises.
We have 9 different rooms and beds for up to 30 people.
The Mountain Rooms
These rooms face the mountain and enter from the front stoep.
The Garden Rooms:
These rooms open up into our Courtyard with it’s unique fruit trees and used to be old horse stables. They are loved by the romantics for their simplicity, nostalgic furniture and decorations. All of them have en-suite bathrooms with showers and coffee making facilities.
Kepe’s ‘Cave’ Room in Kepe’s Quarters:
For the brave at heart. Sleep on the floor on a smart mattress with fine linen to experience how Kepe lived in the cave. You bath in a zink bath and make your own fire.
All the units have their own entrances and there is secured parking on the premises.
